How much material do you need?

Measure the area in feet and enter the desired finished depth in inches. The calculator includes a 10% starting allowance for compaction, settlement, grading, and waste. Adjust it when the project conditions call for more or less.

A useful starting point

Before you order

01

Measure the full area

Use the longest length and widest width for rectangular areas. Break irregular areas into smaller rectangles and add the estimates together.

02

Allow for compaction

Dirt, road base, sand, and aggregate settle when placed and compacted. The right allowance depends on material, moisture, existing grade, and installation method.

03

Confirm access and weight

Gate width, overhead clearance, road conditions, ground firmness, legal weight, and safe turnaround space affect which truck and load size can reach the placement area.
